Who we are
Our Origins
Feeding the Carolinas originated in 2016 from a simple concept – finding the best way for all ten Food Banks in North and South Carolina to feed more hungry people. Thanks to Dr. Bob Kahle from the Joseph P. Riley Center for Livable Communities at the College of Charleston and attorneys Steve Hope and Ben Hawfield from Charlotte’s Moore and VanAllen, we navigated the process of creating a strategic alliance between the NC Association of Food Banks and the SC Association of Food Banks.
The alliance was finalized in August 2017 as the only multi-state Food Bank association in the nation. Feeding the Carolinas has become a valuable resource and voice for the Food Banks in both states and, most importantly, for our friends and neighbors who experience hunger every day.
Our Role
FFeeding the Carolinas is a Partner Association of Feeding America, the nation’s leading hunger relief organization. We unite North and South Carolina’s network of ten member Food Banks working to provide a healthy, adequate, and consistent food supply to our communities. Feeding the Carolinas member Food Banks support more than 3,700 local charitable agencies, which serve the 2.3 million Carolinians across 146 counties facing hunger annually. Feeding the Carolinas also serves as a unified voice regarding hunger and food insecurity and is available to respond during times of crisis.
Our Commitment to Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

We acknowledge and honor the fundamental value and dignity of all individuals.

We commit to addressing the root causes of hunger and advocating for social justice and the common good.
