It’s hard to believe it has been six weeks since Hurricane Helene caused so much destruction in the Carolinas. Our member Food Banks have accomplished so much in that short time, especially MANNA Food Bank. Seeing MANNA go from a complete loss to serving all 16 counties in their area is nothing short of a miracle.
And that miracle in large part is due to supporters like you – individuals, small businesses, groups, foundations, and corporations – all coming together to help us Feed the Carolinas and Feed Hope.
In celebration of the resiliency shown by MANNA FoodBank, we want to share with you a glimpse into what the recovery process is looking like so far – and what it will look like moving forward. So without further ado, enjoy our mini-documentary here!
We’ve come to understand the enormity of the challenges both behind us and ahead. Recovery in western North Carolina will take months, if not years, to reach a semblance of stability. As we shift from reacting to the immediate crisis to planning for the next 3, 6, and 12 months, the road ahead is clear – it will be difficult, but not impossible.
This time of year brings unique challenges. Alongside recovery efforts for Helene, we face the annual increase in need for food during the holiday season. As the spotlight fades, with news cameras moving on and social media shifting its attention to the next crisis, we ask you to remember that we are far from “normal” – whatever “normal” may look like.
We need your support to keep going. Whether through your prayers, advocacy, or partnership, your involvement is vital to this ongoing recovery effort. Together, we can ensure that no one in our communities is left behind.
Let’s keep on Feeding Hope.
Our deepest thank you,
Mike Darrow | ED, Feeding the Carolinas
