Location Overview

Offers comprehensive support services to individuals and families in downtown Charleston, including case management, financial management support, and employment assistance such as resume help, job search, and interview preparation. Provides food through a pantry and soup kitchen, general clothing, and financial assistance for rent, utilities, and prescriptions. Additional services include budgeting classes, dental and OB/GYN care, and educational programs such as GED, ESL, and youth education.

Eligibility
Residency Requirements

  • Residents of downtown Charleston Zip Codes 29403 & 29401.
  • Residents of West Ashley Zip Code 29407.
Low Income Individuals and Families
  • If the household currently receives, SNAP, TANF, or SSI benefits, the household automatically qualifies.
  • Household must have an income that is less than 250% of the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines.
    • Federal Poverty Guidelines may be viewed here.
  • The household may qualify as a result of an emergency situation. Documentation of the emergency must be provided.
Clients may receive food and clothing assistance once every two months. Clients are eligible for financial assistance once a year.

Application Process

  • Call to schedule an appointment.
  • Before receiving services, clients must meet with a social worker to determine eligibility.

Documents
Proof of Residency

  • Documentation showing name and current address such as a utility bill or lease agreement
Proof of Income
  • Last month's paystubs, last year's tax return, or proof of benefits/award letter for SNAP, SSI, etc.
Proof of Emergency 
  • Proof of Emergency is only needed if you do not qualify for services based on income or benefits recieved.
